John Beaufin Irving (1825-1877)

John Beaufin Irving III, Artist, of 48 East 78th Street, New York City

He was born at Charleston, South Carolina. In 1859, he was married at Charleston to Mary Middleton Hamilton, whose grandfather lived at the Middleton-Pinckney House. During the Civil War, he was Deputy Confederate State Marshall for South Carolina (though this may have been his father). After the war, he settled in New York where he became a well-known artist and an Associate of the National Academy. He lived at 48, East 78th Street, New York, and had 9-children.
