John Anthon (1784-1863)

Attorney & President of the Law Institute of New York

He was worth an estimated $300,000 in 1845, part of which was inherited from his father and from his lucrative profession, but the lion's share came to him by his marriage to one of the daughter's of the wealthy auctioneer John Hone who was a brother of the diarist and Mayor of New York City, Philip Hone.
