John Adams Dix (1880-1945)

He was born in New York and was named for his famous grandfather, U.S. Senator John Adams Dix, Governor of New York. etc. He graduated from Harvard and spent some years as a partner in the brokerage firm of Dix & Bangs. He served as a 1st Lieutenant in the Field Artillery in France during World War I and retired from Wall Street in 1920 to devoted himself to art. He studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris and in 1930 gave his first exhibition at the American Art Association-Anderson Galleries. He exhibited his oil paintings in New York and other cities, and he was a member of the University Club, Harvard Club, and St. Nicholas Society of New York. In 1910, he married Sophie Townsend and they had two sons and a daughter.
