Jared Lewis Rathbone (1791-1845)

of "Kenwood House" Albany, New York; Merchant & Mayor of Albany

He was a co-owner with his brother, Joel, of a wholesale stove manufacturing company in Albany, becoming one of the city's wealthiest men and Mayor from 1838-1841. Named for the Rathbone’s ancestral village in Perthshire, Scotland, "Kenwood" (see images) was built between 1842 and 1845 on 75-acres of landscaped grounds overlooking the Hudson and the Catskill mountains to the south.
