Jane Hubbard Boit (1870-1955)

"Jeanie" Jane Hubbard Boit, of Greenwich, Connecticut

She was born at Boston, Massachusetts, and was brought up in France and Italy where her father was an artist. She is immortalized in John Singer Sargent's famous painting on display at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston: The Daughters of Edward Darley Boit (1882), where she is seen standing next to her sister Florence who is leaning against the vase. She spent much of her childhood and her adulthood unwell, both physically and emotionally, which may be explained in her father's biography. As a result, she was frequently checked-in to various retreats and institutions and underwent a series of attempted 'cures' in a vain effort to quell her fits of violence and depression. Her two surviving sisters lived together in Newport, and she died at Greenwich, Connecticut.
