Jane (Cleeve) Velley (b.c.1719)

Mrs Jane (Cleeve) Velley

She grew up at Greensted Hall, near Ongar in Essex. In 1740, she married the Rev. Thomas Velley, of Chipping Ongar, who in consideration of their marriage subscribed £600 to the Company of Mercers, "for the benefit of his intended wife". By the will of her late father, she also received £1,000 on her marriage. After her mother died in 1750, Jane received Hardings which was part of the Greensted Hall estate that she and her siblings sold two years later. Her grandson, the Rev. Philip Budworth, would buy back the estate in 1837.
