James Wade (1750-1826)

Shoe-Maker & Common Soldier, of Andover, Ohio

He saw action at the Battles of Lexington and Bunker Hill. Taken prisoner, he was confined for a long time in Halifax, Nova Scotia. At the conclusion of the war, traveling with an ox team and covered wagon, he moved his family to Andover, Ohio. His son, Benjamin, rose to become a U.S. Senator, "distinguished as a zealous opponent of slavery," and his son Edward served four terms in Congress.
