James Slocum (1811-1891)

Hardware Merchant, Farmer & Anti-Slavery Activist, of Brownsville, Pennsylvania

Brownsville was a "station of the Underground Railroad between Virginia and Canada". In 1880, Slocum said, "I feel great satisfaction at my opposition to human slavery. I have from early manhood continued firm in my belief that freedom should be national and apply to all classes alike". He was married twice (to two sisters) and had two daughters by his first wife.
