James S. Cox (1748-1821)

President of The Insurance Company of the State of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia

He was born in the Bermudas where his great-grandfather - John Cox - acquired land on the Island of Eleuthera and served as a Member of the Council in the House of Assembly. James went into business with his brother on the Island of Grenada before moving to Philadelphia circa 1785. He married twice and had six children.
