James Phyn (1732-1821)
Merchant, of Phyn, Ellice & Co., of Schenectady, New York
His firm, Phyn, Ellice & Co., was among the best known in British North America. His brother-in-law, William Kerin Constable, of New York, briefly partnered with him in the West Indian Trade. He mentored his nephews John Forsyth and John Richardson who established Forsyth, Richardson & Co., one of the leading import-export firms in Montreal.
