James Lenox (1720-1806)

Bailie of Kirkcudbright, Dumfries-shire

He was born at Milnhouse (pictured above), Kirkcudbright. His father lost the estate in a game of cards with Lord Selkirk. Four of his sons emigrated to America where they made their fortunes, notably Robert Lenox, for whom the Lenox Hill neighborhood on New York's Upper East Side is named.
