James Isaac Van Alen (1788-1874)
James I. Van Alen, "affluent merchant" of Kinderhook, New York
He is not to be confused with his relation (most likely his first cousin), James Isaac Van Alen (1772-1822), also of Kinderhook, who was the U.S. Congressman from New York and half-brother of President Martin Van Buren. This James I. Van Alen was an "affluent merchant" and the father of General James Van Alen.
