Jimmy Van Alen (1902-1991)

"Jimmy" James Henry Van Alen II, President of the U.S. Lawn Tennis Association

He was educated in England at Christchurch College, Cambridge (1920). He Captained an Oxford-Cambridge team that beat Harvard & Yale. He was the inventor of the tie-break in the modern game of tennis and was described as, "a considerable personage who shines in any society". He had two wives and two sons by his first marriage. His granddaughter, "Lee", was married in 1993 to Pierre Manigault, son of Peter Manigault, Chairman of the Evening Post Publishing Company in Charleston, S.C.
