James Henry Rives (1835-1908)
of Albemarle Co., Virginia; Chairman of the State Republican Committee
He was a merchant when he enlisted with the C.S.A. as Captain of "Rives Company" in the Nelson Light Artillery, Virginia Regiment. After the war he was Chairman of the State Republican Committee and in the years before his death he was Collector of Internal Revenues at Lynchburg, Virginia. From about 1888, he made his home in Albemarle County.
