James Carolan (1828-1912)
James Carolan, of Sacramento, California
He was among the original pioneers who sailed from New York and around the Horn to California in 1849. He established himself as a hardware merchant in Sacramento where he became an intimate friend of Charles Crocker. Having accumulated a fortune he invested heavily in real estate making him considerably wealthy. He lived on California Street until 1906 before moving to 2198 Jackson Street.
