Gen. Jacob Morris (1755-1844)

of Butternuts, Otsego Co., New York

He was a prominent officer in the Revolutionary army, serving as Aide-de-Camp to General Charles Lee. He was an active participant in most of the battles of the Revolution, taking a distinguished part in the gallant defence of Fort Moultrie. In 1787, he moved with his family to Otsego County, New York, and settled on a tract of land given to him by his father which became known as the Morris Land Patent.
