J. Bruce Ismay (1862-1937)
of Sandheys, Liverpool; Chairman of the White Star Line & Titanic Survivor
He succeeded his father to become President of the White Star Line in 1899, and controversially survived the sinking of the Titanic in 1912. He lived between "Sandheys" Mossley Hill, Liverpool, and 15 Hill Street, London, but after the Titanic fiasco, he retired to the Gatehouse at Haselbech Hall, Northamptonshire, home to his brother (who was married to his wife's sister), Charles Ismay. In 1888, he married Julia, daughter of George R. Schieffelin, of New York, and they had four children. Mrs. Ismay survived her husband and died at her home, 3 Kensington Palace Gardens, London.
