Horace Fletcher (1849-1919)
Horace Fletcher "The Great Masticator"
He was an American health food enthusiast of the Victorian era who earned the nickname "The Great Masticator," by recommending that food should be chewed at least 100-times in the mouth before swallowing: "Nature will castigate those who don't masticate". He was the younger brother of the great patron of the arts, Isaac, who lived on Fifth Avenue in New York at the Harry F. Sinclair House.
