Hon. Hugh Melville Howard (1883-1919)
D.L., of "Bellevue" Delgany, Co. Wicklow
He was the younger son of Cecil Ralph Howard, 6th Earl of Wicklow. He was educated at Eton and Trinity College, Oxford. In 1908, he married Amy, the only child of Benjamin Aymar Sands, of New York City. They had two children but after Hugh died of pneumonia their mother developed psychological problems and was institutionalized. Their children were then brought up by their uncle, the 7th Earl of Wicklow, at Shelton Abbey, and holidays were spent with their "beloved" American grandmother, Amy Sands. Their son was heir to the Earldom but died unmarried.
