Henry Stanley Smith (1839-1916)

Timber Merchant, of Quebec & Addington House, Wimbledon

He was one of the three sons of James Smith and grew up at Barkeley House in Seaforth, near Liverpool. His brothers (James Barkeley Smith and Charles Chaloner Smith) were partners in Houghton, Smith & Co., shipowners, timber and commission merchants of Liverpool. In 1862, he went into the timber export and storage business with John Burstall at Quebec. In 1875, he married Harriet, daughter of Chief Justice Sir William Collis Meredith, and they had four sons. In Quebec, they lived at 69 Rue d'Auteuil before retiring to England at "Addington" in Wimbledon where he died.
