Henry Ammon James (1854-1929)
Lawyer, of New York City & East Hampton, Long Island
He was born in Baltimore, Maryland. He was graduated from Yale and practised as a lawyer in New York City, later becoming the first President of the East Hampton Electric Light Company. He took the decision to bury cables rather than drape them from pylons, which has not only preserved the beauty of the area, but has also proved to be the more robust choice. He was the author of "Communism in America" (New York, 1879), and married Laura Sedgwick who commissioned their summer home in East Hampton on Long Island, where they met.
