Guy Grimmer Murchie (1872-1958)

Guy Grimmer Murchie, U.S. Marshal of Boston, Massachusetts

He was born at Calais, Maine. After leaving Harvard he became one of Teddy Roosevelt's "Rough Riders" in Cuba and was later appointed U.S. Marshal in Boston. Roosevelt was godfather to both his sons. His affair with Mrs Ethel Ross while married to Jane Eaton, "so shocked the court that it sanctioned the publication of Mrs Ross' name... They had traipsed all over Europe together and never told a soul they were not man and wife. They had stayed at hotels at Soun-Matt, Switzerland; Rouen, France, and Muhlen, Switzerland (and) trips through Canada, to New York and Florida".
