George Wellington Schurman (1867-1930)

George W. Schurman, of New York

He was senior partner of the law firm Hughes, Schurman & Dwight. At his death, his friend William Morrow Know Olcott said this of him which was published in The New York Times: "Thought and spoken and written, there will be many eulogies upon George Wellington Schurman; none will say too much. His services as Chief Assistant District Attorney under Jerome brought immeasurable aid to that brilliant prosecutor's work; his partnership with Judge Hughes was a fitting association of great minds; his activities in the Bar Association and County Lawyer's Association were notably efficient; while his personal law practice developed for good service not only to his clients but to the community. It is not an overstatement to say that his work was daily revealing his high, powerful and lovable qualities". He and his wife had two children.
