Capt. George Washington Lewis (1757-1821)

of "Marmion" King George Co., Virginia

He was born in Fredericksburg and lived first at Berryville and then "Marmion" (see image), 17 miles east of Fredericksburg. He served in the Revolution (1776-79) and the Whiskey Rebellion in 1794. From his uncle, George Washington, he inherited 1300-acres on the Ohio and Great Kanawha Rivers. In 1779, he married Catherine, daughter of Col. William Daingerfield, of Coventry, and had three children.
