George Washington Cass (1810-1888)
Co-Builder of the 1st Cast-Iron Bridge in America & Railroad President, of New York
He was a nephew of U.S. Secretary of State, etc., Lewis Cass. He became a Civil Engineer and built the first cast-iron bridge in America and the "Dunlap's Creek Bridge" at Brownsville, Pennsylvania. He was President of the Northern Pacific Railroad from 1872 to 1875 and died at his home, 52 West 57th Street, New York City. His wife, Louisa Dawson, was the sister of U.S. Congressman John Littleton Dawson.
