George Sumner (1839-1921)
George Sumner Sr., of Montreal
He was born in England and came to Canada in about 1860. He became Vice-President of Cominco (the Consolidated Mining & Smelting Company) under Wilmot Matthews. He was a former President of the Montreal Board of Trade and Head of Hodgson, Sumner & Company Ltd., wholesale dry goods importers who were "one of the most prominent firms in their line of goods in Canada". One of his daughters married and lived in Spain, and his son George Jr. drowned at Lake Francis in 1886. He died at his home in Westmount.
