George Griswold Van Rensselaer (1875-1894)
Classics Student at Harvard University; drowned in early adulthood
He drowned while a student at Harvard and his mother presented a trophy in his memory to the Beverly Yacht Club that has been competed for annually since 1896 - the Van Rensselaer Memorial Cup. On his father's behalf, his mother established a fellowship at Harvard in his name, allowing someone from his class to spend a year at the American School of Classical Antiquities in Athens or elsewhere in Europe.
