George Gibbs (1815-1873)
George Gibbs IV, Artist & Author, of Newport, Rhode Island
He was born at Sunswick on Long Island. He became an artist and became well-known for painting the northern coast of California. He also authored at least three nonfiction books influenced by his travels.
