George Forsyth (1755-1806)

Merchant of York (Toronto) & Niagara, Upper Canada

He was born in Huntly, Aberdeenshire. He sailed to Canada and first established himself at York (Toronto) and then Niagara, both in Upper Canada, where he was associated with his brothers' influential firm, Forsyth, Richardson & Co., Montreal. He was a Freemason and Provincial Grand Master at Niagara. He married Catherine, daughter of Captain Peter Ten Broeck (1737-1804), U.E.L., from Albany, New York. Issue unknown. His tomb in St. Mark's Cemetery gained some notoriety during the War of 1812 when it was used by American soldiers as a butcher's block.
