George Emlen (1718-1776)

Brewer, of Chestnut Street, Philadelphia, & Whitemarsh Valley, Mongomery Co.

He inherited his father's brewing business and kept a home in Philadelphia and a country house (see images) at Fort Washington in the Whitemarsh Valley, Montgomery Co., which was used for five weeks as George Washington's headquarters in the fall of 1777, sharing the house with the Marquis de Lafayette among others. The house has been extended over the years but it still stands (see images).
