George Crowninshield (1734-1815)

Merchant-Shipowner, of Crowninshield & Sons, Salem, Massachusetts

He was a pioneer of the American pepper trade route between Salem and Sumatra and died a millionaire in 1815. He married Mary Derby, the sister of another of America's early millionaires, Elias Hasket "King" Derby, of Salem. They had eight children (listed above) who survived to adulthood.
