George Cornwallis-West (1874-1951)

Major George Frederick Myddleton Cornwallis-West, of the Scots Guards

He was described as a writer and a soldier, but is primarily remembered for his marriages. There was an effort made to match him with the notorious heartbreaker, Muriel Thetis Wilson, but he was passionately in love with an older woman, Jennie Jerome (Lady Randolph Churchill), to whom he was married in 1900. This marriage made him stepfather to Winston Churchill, even though he was only two weeks older than his new stepson! The passion did not last and neither did the marriage. After fourteen years they were divorced and in the same year he married the actress better known by her stage name as Mrs Patrick Campbell. He had no legitimate children.
