George Augustus Elliot (1820-1888)

George A. Elliot, of Newburgh, Orange County, New York

He was born at New Haven, Connecticut. He began his career as a merchant in New York City. By 1854, he had quit his business career and was recorded as a farmer living at Echo Lawn, Newburgh. By 1880, he was described as a retired paper manufacturer. He was married twice: (1) In 1849, at Newburgh, he married Harriet, daughter of Judge and Congressman John W. Brown. She died without issue (2) In 1860, he married Harriette Francis and had at least three children (William, Gertrude and George).
