Frieda (Schiff) Warburg (1876-1958)
Mrs Frieda "Fanny" (Schiff) Warburg
Her estate was valued at $9.1 million on her death in 1958. From this, she donated her home in Palm Springs plus $2.5 million to the Felix M. & Frieda Schiff Warburg Foundation. She gave the Warburg Mansion in New York to become the home of the Jewish Museum and she gifted her country home, the Woodlands, to the Greenburgh local school district. After gifts to relatives, servants, and friends, the bulk of the remaining circa $6 million was divided equally between her five children. Not including what they gave to various diverse charities before 1922, from then to 1937 she and her husband gave away $13-million during those fifteen years.
Other charities that benefited from her will were: the Federation of Jewish Philanthropies of New York ($100,000); American-Jewish Joint Distribution Committee ($50,000); Negro Education, Welfare and Service Institutions to be selected by her executors ($50,000); Jewish Theological Seminary of America ($50,000); Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion ($25,000); United Hospital Fund ($20,000); Visiting Nurse Service of New York ($20,000); Hebrew University Association for the use of Hebrew University-Hadassah Medical School ($20,000); American Friends of the Hebrew University ($20k).
