Frederick Stephen Wombwell (1876-1943)

of 103 East 75th Street, New York City & Asheville, North Carolina

He was born in England, the son of Frederick C. Wombwell and Carolina Sophia Jones, of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil "a member of a widely known banking family". He was a brother of Capt. Charles Herbert Wombwell and took part in the Klondike Gold Rush. He left with just $4,000 and in 1899 published his diaries, A Year in the Klondike, 1898-99. He later became a coal merchant in Philadelphia and sometime before his marriage took American citizenship. In 1923, at New York City, he married Martha, daughter of Harry Coster, when he had homes in New York and North Carolina.
