Frederick Frelinghuysen (1788-1820)

Attorney of Newark, New Jersey

He was born at Millstone, New Jersey, the son, brother, and father of three US. Senators. He was educated at Princeton and after being admitted to the Bar he began a lucrative legal practice and was remembered as, "a natural orator with a fervid imagination and a cheerful, buoyant temperament, and possessing great power over juries". In 1812, he married Jane, daughter of Peter B. Dumont who owned a valuable plantation on the south bank of the Raritan near Somerville. They had 5-children (listed), all of whom were adopted by Frederick's brother, Senator Theodore Frelinghuysen.
