Col. Francis Thornton (1712-1749)

III, of "Fall Hill" Spotsylvania County, Virginia

His hilltop plantation, "Fall Hill" near Fredericksburg, is situated next to the falls of the Rappahannock River and was part of the 8,000-acres in Spotsylvania County that was originally patented to his grandfather, Francis Thornton, circa 1720. The house still seen there today is thought to have been built circa 1790 either by his son or grandson (both also named Francis).
