Francis Saxham Elwes Drury (1859-1937)
Francis Saxham Elwes Drury
He was born in England at Bramhilll, Wiltshire. He was the son of the Rev. Henry Drury, Archdeacon of Wiltshire, and the great-grandson of the Rev. Dr. Joseph Drury (1750-1834) D.D., Headmaster of Harrow School and the teacher of Lord Byron who later wrote an account of him. His grandfather, Henry Thomas Joseph Drury (1778-1841) was Assistant-Headmaster at Harrow for 41-years. Francis himself married an American heiress, Mabel, daughter of Commodore Elbridge T. Gerry. They had two children (a son, Vivyan, and a daughter Phyllis, Mrs Coke) and he died at Newport, R.I.
