Francis Eppes (1597-1674)

Capt. Francis Eppes, Member of the Virginia Council & House of Burgesses

He was born at Ashford, Kent. According to tradition, he came to Virginia in 1622. In 1625, he was elected to the House of Burgesses, serving again in 1631-1632. He was appointed a Justice for the Counties of Charles City and Henrico in 1631. In 1635, he was patented 1,700-acres on the south side of the James River in Charles City County, Virginia. In 1652, he was elected to the Governor's Council of Virginia. He married Marie Pawlett and they had tw0 children (listed) who survived to adulthood.
