Erskine Childers (1870-1922)

D.S.C., Author, Officer in the British Forces & Irish Nationalist

He was the author of The Riddle of the Sands (1903) about German preparations for a sea-borne invasion of England, and proposals for achieving Irish independence. It was voted as one of the 100 Greatest Novels of All Time and one of the top ten classic spy novels. It was later (1979) made into film starring Michael York and Simon MacCorkindale. Childers based the character Arthur Davies on himself.
