Ernst Manderup Alexander zu Lynar (1834-1886)

His Serene Highness Prince (Ernst Manderup) Alexander zu Lynar of Prussia

He came from an old noble Prussian family with a tradition of diplomatic service. For 300 years, his family had been seated at Schloss Lübbenau in Brandenburg, then in the Kingdom of Prussia. However, his childhood had been spent at the castle acquired by his father Schloss Lindenau for which he would later name his own marital home at Gorlitz. During the Franco-Prussian War (1870-1871) he served as aide-de-camp to the Emperor of Prussia. At the time of his marriage in 1871, his name was in the mix as one of those to potentially succeed Baron Schlossen as German Minister to Washington. However, after his wedding in Columbus, Ohio, he returned with his wife to Germany where they enjoyed, "a very warm, friendly marriage" until his premature death.
