Elihu Chauncey (1779-1847)

President of the Reading Railroad, etc., of Walnut Street, Philadelphia

He was born at New Haven, Connecticut. He graduated from Yale (1796) and became Editor of the North American Gazette and President of the Reading Railroad. He was also a Director of the Bank of the United States and the Bank of Pennsylvania. He married Henrietta, daughter of John Teackle of Accomac Co., Virginia, and had at least two daughters including Mrs Booth who restored Carter's Grove
