Eleanor (Curran) Loder (d.1963)

Eleanor (Curran) "Countess Moroni," Lady Davis, Mrs Loder

She was born and grew up in New Orleans, Louisiana, becoming a manicurist. Her fortunes changed dramatically when Sir Mortimer Davis fell in love with her, divorcing his wife to marry her in 1924. To make her appear more respectable to society, he paid an impoverished Count Moroni to marry and then divorce her so that by the time they were married she was styled as Countess Moroni. Sir Mortimer died in 1928 and four years later (1932) she married an Old Etonian, Major Eric Raymond Loder, grandson of Sir Robert Loder and nephew of Lord Loder, of Wakehurst Place.
