Capt. Edward Hutchinson (1613-1675)

Merchant & Captain in King Philip's War; emigrated from Lincolnshire to Boston

He was a mercer (a dealer in silks and velvet) in the market town of Wainfleet-All-Saints in Lincolnshire before emigrating to Boston, Massachusetts, in 1633, where his sister, Faith, married Major Thomas Savage. As a merchant there, he became part owner of the salt works and in 1658 he was commissioned as a Captain of Artillery. During King Philip's War, he was mortally wounded by Nipmunk Indians at Marlborough, Massachusetts. He was married twice and had several children by both wives. Those who lived to adulthood and married are listed. He is the ancestor of many notable Bostonians and his many descendants include among them Franklin D. Roosevelt.
