Edith (Cooper) Bryce (1854-1916)

Mrs Edith (Cooper) Bryce

She was daughter and niece of two Mayors of New York; a grand-daughter of the founder of the Cooper Union in New York; and, a first cousin of the inventor Peter Cooper Hewitt. She was manager of the New York Exhibit at the World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago in 1893. In 1878, she married Lloyd Stephens Bryce and had three children (listed). They were listed among the Mrs Astor's "Four Hundred" and built Clayton at Roslyn on Long Island. Their daughter, Cornelia, was a noted suffragist and unsuccessfully contested for a seat in Congress. She married Gifford Pinchot and was, “one of the most politically active first ladies in the history of Pennsylvania".
