Edith (Clift) de Vandeul (b.1854)

Baroness Edith Hunter (Clift) Maupoint de Vandeul, of "Villa St. George" & Paris

Her husband, Henry, was a grandson of Gen. Louis-Joseph Maupoint de Vandeul (1766-1849) who was created a Baron d'Empire by Napoleon in 1809. However it was reported in 1893 that, "Baron Henry Maupoint de Vandeul was not acquired by the Clift family, as it will be remembered, without some preliminary struggles... there is practically nothing in his title whatever, he being said to have picked it up, as it were. Brushing this little cobweb aside, he is a very agreeable and respectable elderly gentleman." Edith and Henry were married in London in 1891 and lived between the "Villa St. George" at Arcachon in the Gironde and 20 Rue Matignon, Paris. They had one son.
