Eben Appleton (1784-1833)

Commission Merchant & Manufacturer, of London & Lowell, Massachusetts

He went into business at Boston in partnership with Daniel Parker importing British goods. During this time he studied poetry and languages and frequently contributed to various editorials. His business took him first to the Southern States and then to Europe before taking up residence in England where he married Sarah Patterson. He lived in London as a commission merchant for many years until the outbreak of War of 1812 when he returned to America. In 1826, he removed from Boston to Lowell where he took charge of the Hamilton Manufacturing Company, dying there in 1833. He and his wife were the parents of four children (listed).
