He was the great-great-grandson of Kenelm Winslow (1599-1672), of Plymouth, Massachusetts, a carpenter, cabinet-maker and official coffin-maker of the colony who came to America in 1631 and was the brother of Edward Winslow, 3rd Governor of Plymouth County.
