Dr. David King (1812-1882)
M.D., of Newport, Rhode Island; Co-Founder of the American Medical Association
He was born and died in Newport, Rhode Island. He graduated from Brown University (1831) and studied medicine with his father at the Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia before returning to practice at Newport. He was one of the founders of the American Medical Association; President of the Rhode Island Board of Health; President of the Newport Historical Society; and, President of the Redwood Library. He was a collector of rare books and occasionally wrote himself.
