Dr. Allan McLane (1790-1845)

M.D., Physician, Fellow of the Medical Faculty of Maryland & Mayor of Wilmington

He graduated from Princeton (A.B., 1807; A.M., 1810) and the University of Pennsylvania (M.D. 1811). He became a physician in New Castle and Wilmington, and served as Surgeon in Caesar A. Rodney's Company in the War of 1812. He was one of the first Mayors of the City of Wilmington, President of the Farmer's Bank, Wilmington (1824-31), and Fellow of the Medical Faculty of Maryland. He married Catherine, granddaughter of Signer of the U.S. Declaration of Independence, George Read. They were the parents of five children.
